I’m Not Who I Was

In an attempt to be accepted,

I tried to be someone I was not,

losing my identity in the process.

I became identical to the others~

a carbon copy of perfection with

a false facade of contentment.

With lies caked on too heavily,

I revealed my true self to them,

being rejected, becoming dejected.

I reached out to the One who

knew me best and loved me most;

He saw me for who I truly was.

And He took me as I was, flawed,

held me in His all-encompassing arms,

and showered me with appreciation.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Inspired by the song so-called by Brandon Heath.
