Pill-Popping Philosophy

We live in a time

Where there is a pill for every ailment,

From every terminal disease to every mild irritation.

Depressed?

Take this pill; it will cheer you up.

Stressed?

Take this pill; it will calm you down.

These overpaid doctors have convinced us

Life is much too painful to go it alone

So they offer their diagnosis:

Numbness is far better than pain.

Maybe it is just a clever ruse

As they prescribe these placebo pills

And trick us into believing

We are feeling much better.

They forget to mention that

The effects of these medications can include

Permanent paralysis and ongoing narcosis.

If nothing else, they should put on the label:

Discontinue use to feel human again.

Treating the problem and ignoring the cause

Doesn't cause the problem to go away.

I agree with you on this one. I see so many kids medicated when structure and discipline would work if used and given boundaries and limits. The problem is no one wants to do it or the state in many state calls discipline child abuse. When a child is not shown love as well as discipline they become zombies with the pills dumped into their system. The other thing to contemplate is psychiatrists and psychologists. Yes they are trained in book theory but they don't live the lives of their patients so how can they possibly understand varied circumstances? The next question of course is what is normal and who decides it? Yeah if you look at t.v. with all the drugs you note they take care of one problem but always have varied side effects that in some instances can be worse then the original problem. Of course one might also add all this numbing with drugs does not make us face our fears, our doubts, lack of self-confidence etc. Chemical cover is not the answer, love, compassion, respect and interacting is ..
