Prisoner

Folder:
Extended Metaphors

I'm a prisoner just trying to blend in

Behind bars to my own confining sin

Knowing I wasted my life by giving in

To the binding restraints of temptation

Thinking I'd have another shot at salvation

Only to find that I'd missed my probation.

You see, this life sentence I've served

All this self-inflicting pain I've deserved

However, it's all for a reason I've observed.

Our destiny is not something we create.

Nothing is coincidence; we can't escape fate.

I'll give my life to Him before it's too late.

Now it's time to stop giving in to sin

And start fighting these demons within

But I'm not alone; He will help me win.

Only when I realize that He holds the key

Will I ever have a chance to be set free

And finally discover all that I can be.

Rewrite 2012

I'm a prisoner just trying to blend in
behind bars to my own confining sin
knowing I wasted my life by giving in
to the binding chains of temptation
thinking I'd have another shot at salvation
only to find that I'd skipped my probation.
You see, this life sentence I've served
all this self-inflicted pain I've deserved.
However, it's all for a reason I've observed.
Our destiny is not something we create.
Nothing is coincidence; we can't escape fate.
I'll give my life to Him before it's too late.
Now it's time to stop giving in to sin
and start fighting these demons within.
But I'm not alone; He will help me win.
Only when I realize that He holds the key
will I ever have a chance to be set free
and finally discover all that I can be.
