VERY FEW FIRSTS

They say you never forget the first time but I can’t remember a lot of firsts.  I don’t remember the first day of kindergarten or that frightening first bus ride to school.  I know I went to school I was normally the third tallest kid in the class in the early years.  One taller student was a girl that wasn’t very nice to me and a few years later I beat up her brother.  That wasn’t my first fight and I don’t remember the first fight.  By puberty, she was pretty and I was taller.  She smiled at me a lot but they moved so that never had a chance to become my first kiss…I remember a lot of stuff and yet very few firsts

I don’t remember

Echoes Peter Gabriel’s song

it’s all elusive

I wanna call it a first

but in truth, I just don’t know
