MY FAILED CAREER; REJECTION SLIPS

With my failed career;

           rejection slips

               rejected heart

         pulling for love

              wishing

         wishing longing

              yen for Zen

                 hand feels

         pangs from the pen

listening not hearing

               STOP!

        take a break

             momentary

         screeching halt

      to the pure flow

          of consciousness

get back

       on track

    with hair tousled

        thinking fame success

Burroughs alive at 78;

           I’m clearly

         not up to par

           on all my thoughts

Author's Notes/Comments:

Burroughs turned 78 in 1992 so it's a fair guess that's when this poem was written.
