1994: Take A Walk With Me

Folder:
My History

(What you're about to read is my most personal experiences to date.)

1994, hmmm.......how can I call it?

the year of the good, the bad, the rawest

it started when Guilliani took a dump on New York

fuckin with the Nation, the homeless, the poor

it was the very first year I got a taste of independence

little cuz got pregnant and the family didn't except it

I can't forget to mention, little Stacy got shot

over some dumb shit that went spreadin on the block

every other day we got smacked by a snowstorm

baby sis runnin the streets thinkin she's all grown

the year that gave birth to Nas' Illmatic

The World Is Yours, mines, mines yeah we had it

chocolate eatin Forrest Gump was told to run

this was also the year that I almost had a son

but due to complications we lost my little man

my first born gone, yo that killed me pham

facing many levels of responsibility

kissing ass at the job wasn't ever fit for me

running young and free without giving a damn

when I graced the stage for the first time and jammed

spent every Wednesday that summer in Grant's Tomb

watchin jazz bands rock late in the afternoon

me and the Mrs. used to go hit the flicks

every Friday night after work at six

this was the year Arsenio called it quits

and The Lion King was everybody's shit

whether child or adult no one could laugh at ya

Mandela just become president of South Africa

Cannibal Jeffrey Dahmer got murked in prison

and Kobain put a bullet in his melon to kill the rhythm

Tupac was shot, he said, "Fuck New York"

around that time, I took paintball as a sport

Super Nintendo had NBA Jam

and "Flava In Ya Ear" blew up the Soundscan

O.J. was in a Ford Bronco on every station

pure devastation for the nation

escaping the law, escaping himself

was labelled as a monster amid the fame and wealth

it looked like a scene from that movie called Speed

if you went over 55 everything will be sweet

this was the year step pops went cold turkey

checked in to rehab so he wouldn't jerk me

of all my valuables, my fame, my glory

but that was a different year, that's another story

just when I thought things didn't go right

Major League Baseball was hit with a strike

I was 2 months late on my rent payments

had too many zeros and decimals on bank statements

unemployment wasn't paying me jack

why do I catch circumstances like that?

to relax my stress, I just bought this tape

by Biggie Smalls, Ready To Die and it was great

this was the year I came across many haters

the year I first had sex in an elevator

the year Mick and Mallory were Natural Born Killers

the year I wore Guess jeans...damn a Hilfiger

the year wifey threw me a birthday bash

the year I found $150 in cash

the year Tanya tried to make moves on me

the year wifey almost knocked out her teeth

the year the Gravediggaz introduced "horrorcore"

the year I saw Wutang, that shit was so raw

the year Club Bentley's was the place to go

the year I met Jada Pinkett at the Black Expo

the year the Knicks almost won for our honor

the year John Starks was banned from the barber

for missing free throws.........kats missing 3 grand

I'm missing this year like I missed my ol man

1994.........ain't no year after

thanks for the walk, a glance of my chapter

Author's Notes/Comments:

This right here was the biggest year in life that was the most amazing. Not
much of a favorite, but like an important one because this era was the
pinnacle of my life. I've matured, experienced a lot around this time. I still
remember it as if it just yesterday. Y'all remember, right?

Man, I'm young as hell! I remember 94...It was my first year of high school...and yeah, that "Ready to Die" was the shit!

Loved your poem! Thanks for sharing.

FYI, I have a similar poem called My Life, or My Bio...something like that...anyways, I'm sure it's in the "Life" folder. Check it out when you can.

Love ya!
