NOBODY KNEW HER NAME

I woke up early this morning

to what gathered my undivided attention

the block was held captive

by violation and tension

the word was that someone is being sought

he's not yet caught

feeling angered by the nature of crime

no one knows nothing or willing to drop dime

the pours of a woman's outcry puts the

neighborhood to shame

the cries soon shift an immediate

tenant meeting in afternoon rain

the woman with tear-drenched eyes

is the mother of the victim

the victim is now safe, yet emotionally stricken

she's an only child, intelligent and at the tender age of 9

was stripped of her innocence, virginity and her mind

sources don't quite have a lead, but a positive sketch

it was the look of any ordinary man;

like the guy-next-door type

we're hyped....hyped like taking matters in our own hands

by establishing neighborhood watch of our own plan

but that was a song already performed

unsuccessfully, that is

debates.....hates.....talking about it, never being about it

never raising key concerns, always beatin around it

It's been 5 years since Mrs. Gibson been to any meeting

and now she wants to steal the show and orchestrate the leading

The news reporters and TV crews now flood the streets

almost every resident in the building has a front row seat

the media weighs every scheme possible

to exploit the bowels of the ghetto

like the number spots, abandon lots, liquor stores and Amaretto

people young and old flock the scene like pigeons eating on bread

some not even knowing the purpose of why the tenants are fed

they wanna jump in the camera for that exposure

keep an eye on your children, this prick probably knows ya

I then began to step on the scene, dressed conservatively

I'm watching some cameras roll, not one of them observing me

OR the brother in the two-piece suit

OR the latina woman conducting that kids' group

OR the couple wearing the same color shirt

OR those ladies coming home from work

they missed by a long shot, but the cam makes a parting shot

at the wino with missing teeth and dirty clothes

body smells like he wants to be alone

the outrage of justice needed

coming from supporters and others who seen it

the pursuit of a serial rapist ensuing

the summer sizzles, our temper brewing

unsolved mysteries in an uncomfortable condition

this cowardly act clouds our mission

But the hunt won't end

these evil streets will leave you dazed,

stressed and guessin

with many more lessons

Lord, watch our children

they need blessin.........

news at eleven.

Author's Notes/Comments:

To be honest, I wasn't really sure of what to give this title, but this reflected on a serial rape that happened in NY some time ago.
