Recovery Wished

After the darkness and amidst tumultuous tides,
sustained some bruises, some cuts, enduring sleepless nights...

...one slowly seeks recovery.

One wants to recover some of what was lost -
the good, sweet treasures of the heart.

One would like to forget the dark.

The waves still crash, the skies are not fully clear,
and as strong as one has become amidst the seas,
there still exists some fear.

In dreams and visions, there is thought
that some land
was spotted in the distance,
but it could be floatsam,
or some coral or sandbar giving such an appearance.

How is one to know it's safe to land
except to swim towards it?

One would allow the ocean to bring the body closer, and
if upon seeing a firm foundation to stand,
to finally escape the endless water,
one could allow the sun to shine away the doubt that remains,
heal from the pain that was left,
embracing the strength and all value of the experience
while moving forward into new existence.

If only it's solid land, not just a bar of sand.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Someone once asked me if it was necessary to remember the past or why couldn't we just move forward in life, forgetting the past so long as we keep the things learned from it.

It seems possible, or preferable, actually. If we could just so easily forget the hurts and the troubles of yesterday and move forward with the learning that makes sense, and not the learning that makes one afraid to move forward.

It would be great to be able to live this way, especially if we could allow the wisening from the experiences to shape us in a positive manner that allows us to thrive, instead of letting any negativity from past experiences to make us jaded, faithless, cold and untrusting. Or letting fear and mistrust take hold in situations where openness and faith should prevail.

I guess in a situation like that, it becomes important for all involved to be aware and sensitive to the needs of others in that case. Understanding that perhaps one action is taken because of that hesitation caused by fear/mistrust/doubt and a little bit more love and understanding is important to ease the situation forward or understanding that a person is taking a leap of faith and is asking for the other party to be receptive and catch them.

Update: 07-27-12 -- The other thing I didn't mention was the aspect of the poem where one is looking at something that potentially appears to be real, but it's not clear. Why would one put her/himself at risk to brave rough waters only to be stuck in the middle of those rough waters on a sandbar?

When one is tired of floating through b.s. and tired of being hurt over and over again, there comes a point where the need for safety and security outranks the need to rest safe on a temporary point of reference. It's either the land to build on or not. And no matter how fun sand can be to play on, it's no foundation for long-term happiness.

End of thought train.

wow!! what a poignant write

wow!! what a poignant write and subsequent write up in the authors note! exceptional deeply philosophical response. I really enjoyed your views on moving forward. Alot of homeostasis is caused simply by not choosing the correct attitude to deal with the matters they must face in order to achieve a goal. It is a very powerful thing to assume confidence and belief in ability, sentimentality however is a worthy adversary and very often the culprit of hinderance. thankyou for this thought provoking and very poignant write! CHEERSS ;D
