Freewrite Prose - Humanity

we grow up in generations
of parentless children,
and children raising children,
whether or not two parents
were all day working,
together or not, or
one parent here,
the other lost... or neither
parent present, just a
carousel of placeholders
for guardians.

some learn from their loss
(or what was never had)
how to change things, while
others deliver lip service
and perpetuate the lack
of responsible action.

some lost in the system,
not conscious of how they've
been affected,
while others are more resourceful,
and are able to find ways
to be supported
emotionally,
financially,
mentally and
spiritually.

but is it truly just their loss
or a loss for the greater whole -
society and the interconnected
nature of humanity -
when the child of someone
falls to the land of the lost?

we are individual pieces
who can play the charade
of being alone,
when in truth, every cause
has an effect and can change
the affect like a ripple made
by stone.

it is our nature.

even in our solitude,
even when we choose the road
where no one else roams,
and though we can try
to keep to ourselves,
that spark of life within our eyes
fueling our very lives
will still create a motion
that moves through the world.

what motion do we want
sent, what thoughts and
emotions do we want to have spread?

there are a million other plights
that affect humanity,
but i suppose one starts with
the closest one to home.
