Cutting the chain

A certain day somewhere the middle of the pacific ocean, when the sun reached its highest point, all the fish and sea creatures began to swim to land and when they got there they launched themselves unto the land. Instead of trying to get back into the water, they just waited, until they could not live any longer. At the same time land creatures went into the oceans and instead of swimming they let the ocean swallow them up. They didn't even try to fight it back. As the earth continued its course and the sun was at its highest in every part of the world, all the animals, bugs, and creatures acted in similar ways. Birds refused to go out for food, their young stopped crying; ants stopped in their tracks and waited until their limbs stiffened; mothers who had milk didn't bother to feed it to their cubs; frogs sat in the sun until their skin cracked and flaked off.

Only 7 animals thought differently, they felt the need to go somewhere else, someplace very far from their home. Not having anywhere else to be, they followed this feeling.

They all took the same time to get there and many days after the start of their journey they got to a pond in the middle of a forest, in some faraway land that they had never seen or heard of. They gathered in a circle and once they laid eyes on deer, both lion and wolf pounced and ate her whole. Hawk went straight for dove and did the same. Woman and turtle only stared, feeling nothing.

Once they got in a circle again wolf was the first to speak:

“We were hungry, we have not eaten in many days.”

“We know. We couldn't have stopped you anyways.” said woman

The animals looked at each other’s eyes. Each could see in the other's nothing. They had followed this feeling because they had nothing else and now that they were here they felt nothing once again.

“What can we do now?” asked turtle

“There's naught to do.” said hawk. “I don't know what else to do now”

So there they sat and waited. Days passed, and no one said anything. Wolf and lion felt hungry again and this time woman was their meal. Turtle and hawk didn't even flinch at the sound of woman’s flesh tearing.

After some time hawk lied down and didn't open her eyes.

Having no one else to prey on, lion and wolf went to turtle, but he just go into his shell and they couldn’t pierce it no matter how hard they tried. The two predators turned on each other. After many hours fighting, both of them eventually died from the wounds they had received.

Turtle stayed in his shell and never came out again.

Liked it a lot

Everything is a lesson

But short lived

 Because the

Itsy bitsy spider

 Always wants to go

 Up that spout again
