Back To The Past

I remember the way you made me feel
The way you made my heart flutter
Every time you called me "Honey"
You'd make my whole body shudder

You always knew just what to say
How to bring a smile to my face
You made life worth living again
Gave me hope no one could replace

There were days and night I wanted to cry
Times when I found myself alone
But you'd come to mind out of the blue
And your name would appear on my phone

There's no reason I couldn't call
You didn't care about the hour
You said it would all be okay
I believed in that all consuming power

I still hear the sound of your voice
Still see the smile you'd give me
I recall the way you said my name
And how you swore wed always be

It doesn't matter how long you've been gone
Or the way you decided to leave
For some odd reason, I still miss you
Even though you hurt me more than you could perceive

I still want to say hi every once in a while
I'd love to know how you been
But when I really think about it
I realize it would just break my heart all over again

So, instead of opening old wounds
Just for the sake of a memory
I leave what I thought we use to share
Right where its suppose to be

It's in the past, and there it will stay
Because if you hadn't walked away
If you hadn't disappeared
I wouldn't be where I am today.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I have a problem with letting go of the memories that consume me. And of the people who I created them with, despite the pain and sorrow they may cause. This is just a bit of that coming out again.
