The Pool

I cry way too much
Because I can't afford my medication
Always high, always low
So tonight I tried flotation

Closed my eyes, took a deep breath
Pointed my palms and toes toward the sky
Didn't contemplate death
Just the simple "why"

Listened to the water fill my ears
Till I couldn't hear the music anymore
Wanted to clear my mind completely
And try not to think of tomorrow's chore

I floated around, looked at the clouds
till it got really dark
Opened and closed my eyes
Remembering your painting of the shark

Then the mosquitos started to buzz around my wet head.
I went under and then came up
The water trickled out of my ears
The flotation was very nice, in the pool you cannot see my tears.

When I was a child

the pool waters were so alive that I even dreamed that I was a fish, doing extraordinary deeds, wrapped in an aura of beauty and simplicity… If only that imagery could resist time. Ahh, the simple life, in which we have no pain, no ills, no sin, no remorse, no burning in Hell. Alas, poet, life is such that its complications leave little time for our own dreams and fulfillment...
You are a talented artist, be true to you, that is all we can ever do.
Peace
Dylan
