'Father Is A Friend'

Our love for each other was genuine, and now we go our separate ways

I strive in this dying world on earth, while you travel to a land of endless day,

My prayer to God is this;  that his arms hold you on this quest,

I thank him for our time together--for in that moment our love was best

And though we didn’t always see eye-to-eye, I think of our conflicts with a smile,

Because whether or not we knew it , we only had awhile

The laughing and the crying was a gift given from The King,

And now it is only a memory,  one I would not trade for anything

And though God has set eveything on earth to have a beginning and an end,

My spirit will know in this world and beyond

That you were my father, and my friend.

Wow, this really made me miss my dad, & be thnakful for the time we did get, though I've often wished it had been more...I like the way the poem unfolds, telling the story of your relationship, things only you two will ever know (aside from God, of course), & yet the love between you was likely very obvious to all who ever saw you together...
..I especially liked the lines,
"And though God has set eveything on earth
to have a beginning and an end,
My spirit will know in this world and beyond
That you were my father, and my friend."
It really helps bring perspective to the fact that our relationships here are temporary, but we will know our loved ones when we are finally free of the limits of time...this is such an encouraging reminder, thank-you for sharing it!
