"My little children let us not love in word, neither in tongue but in deed and in truth"- 1 John 3:18

This is one of my favorite bible verses because it is so true.  It is also something that many of us easily forget.  It is one thing to tell someone that you love them but the actions have to go with it, you can't contradict that statement.  Child abuse is an excellent example.  A parent tells the child they love tham but then physically or emotionally hurts them.  That child is going to have a distorted view of love because the message that the parent is sending to that child is that love comes with pain and that anyone who loves them will cause them pain.  This is not true but it is something that child will carry with them unless someone is able to show them what love really is.  Spouse abuse is also a classic example of this, the spouse tells their husband or wife that they love them but then hits or punches them and pretty soon they start to think they deserve it or aren't worthy of love.  What people need to remember is "I love you" is not enough, actions speak louder than words.  Jesus didn't just tell us that he loved us he showed us he loved us when he suffered and died to pay for our sins.  THAT is love.  I believe that when Jesus was on earth he wanted to teach us that he didn't just want us to love one another as we love ourselves but to show it.  So maybe instead of always trying to show in words how much we love another person show them like Jesus did for us.

This is trully what love is. It does not hurt people. The distorted form is what we see around us, but thanks for teaching us the real l-o-v-e.

Em, this is absolutely beautiful. It touched my heart in such a way that I felt almost compelled to weep. The verse is certainly one of my favorites, and I love what you wrote. You're still my favorite writer. I could be biased, but that's for you to decide. ;)
