Don't get in too deep,

just enough to quench your thirst,

satisfy your desire for a connection,

however tenuous to the event

and relieve your need to feel that you are 

part of the action, the solution, 

and perhaps,

you can even feel better about yourself,

and more comfortable and secure,

despite the fact that your safety & comfort

have always exceeded most of humanity;

and never actually existed and that thought

never crossed your level of consciousness. 

Let's pitch in to buy him a boat 

that both the government and insurance will replace 

while widows and orphans 

face a new and uncertain day, 

while loved one's grieve multiple tragedies,

lives lost or destroyed, a city terrorized,

a small town devastated;

yes, let us focus our attention 

on replacing that damn boat.
