Pride

Denied affection so attentively sought and desired.

A paradoxical conscience is thought into an acquiring.

The price of heart’s yearning is a fee of self-pride.

“I cannot afford this rate,” a man of wealth lies.

But a penniless man pays not the price of a broken soul;

Instead immodesty is cast aside without a token stole.

He accepts effects of affection gained,

While the rich hold dear to a pride correctly attained.
