Sāyaṃsaṃdhyā

Silhouettes mysteriously emerge

Under indanthrene cumulonimbus skies

As the sun quietly sinks in the west

Diving down into mountains and oceans

I revel in the majestic dusk

Sitting quietly in meditation and prayer

Acknowledging the cardinal directions

Staring in awe at the crescent moon above me

And the beautiful earth that I rest upon

A moment spent in awareness

Of the gentle transitions that unfold in a day

As I peer into the otherworld

The unknowing

The glass mirror of fear

That in this lifetime I can only shatter

As I celebrate transcendence

In this humble earthly form

As late afternoon colors bleed

Into flowing amorphous tapestries

My senses follow the fragrant breeze

As I dream of lotus flowers blossoming

Upon the still blue surface of an undisturbed lake

A damp coolness tames the flames of afternoon

I reach out to my fellow relations

Remembering the caring loving faces of ancestors

Outlines in constellations of stars

That illuminates the night sky in constant patterns

Revealing the oneness in all that exists
