Chapter 2 "Friend from Foe"

Raven awoke from his rest where he had landed the night before. He was as close to the Lords castle as he dared to get, about a mile and half, as the raven flies. From here he would send Nyorex to look at his love and speak through the spirit to her. He watched as Nyorex took off, and settled in a comfortable position. He then fused his mind with that of the spirit, and watched the trees streak by below as the raven flew over them. As he approached the castle, he exercised his will over birds, and a flock of true ravens floated up around Nyorex, so the guards would see nothing suspicious. Ny swooped down to the lord's window, but quickly moved on when he saw the lord having his way with his wife. As the spirit perched on his love's window he saw Prince Tsar strode in, yelling.

"You will marry me, you stupid slut", the prince screamed, "you lucky someone of my stature is willing to marry someone who has been used so many times, like you have."

"I will never consent to marry you, you impotent fool", she screamed back in his face.

"Why you little bitch", the price yelled furiously, raising his hand to hit her.

Nyorex quickly switched into his draconic form and flew in front of her, taking the blow. Raven then spoke through the spirits mouth.

"You can't really get mad at her you know, from what I've heard the gods may have given you looks, but not the equipment to please a woman. Now I know your fathers plans, and with that your family’s fate is sealed, I vowed death and I always hold to my vows."

"Outcast, I'll have you killed, once I find you" Tsar yelled in anger.

"Ohh, the big bad prince is too much of a bitch to do his own dirty work" Raven taunted back.

After releasing the mind fusion, Raven opened his own eyes just in time to see two figures moving through the forest toward him.

"Show yourself!"

The response Raven got was a large man with a sword of supernatural proportions come charging out of the woods. He threw a powerful slash in Raven's direction, who managed to block with his Reavers just in time, taking off and doing a mid-air twist.

"Who are you", Raven asked.

"I am Nightwolf, the king of Kerrone, lord of blood, and the vessel of your death."

"Well that should be interesting to see, but I think ill have the royal pleasure of kicking the living shit out of your royal ass." Raven responded with a sneer.

"We shall see", Nightwolf said with an odd tone.

They traded blows, some on the ground, and some in midair. Both bodies turned to blurs at the speed of the combat. Both men were bleeding out multiple fatal wounds, but neither was getting any weaker. Suddenly, Nyorex arrived in his draconic form and dove to attack Nightwolf. A blood-red dragon, about the same size as Ny, who was obviously Nightwolf's spirit, intercepted his attack. They dragons fought as the men fought and the forest floor ran with blood. Some of that blood was soaked into the trees, changing the leaves a dark crimson. From that day on, the grove was called Boschetto di massacro, or the Grove of Bloodshed. Finally Nightwolf thrust his sword clear through Raven's neck, a blow that should have rendered Raven headless. Raven returned the favor by sinking both of his Reavers into Nightwolf's neck. They both dropped form the air, neither letting go of their weapon hilts. The spirits quit their own personal battle, and split off to coil around their master's.

"Why aren't you dying, you damn son of a bitch" Raven asked.

"I could ask the same of you" Nightwolf responded.

Just then the other figure materialized out of the shadows and spoke with the voice of a seer," The two of you are obviously equals and are meant to fight together, not against each other. . The elements your spirits represent, death and blood, are always entwined. Look at your spirits, both take the form of dragons, a form only the highest of sprits can take. Since you fight to the death and neither can die, your fighting will result in a useless waste of time."

"But Angelwolf, what are you saying we become friends" Nightwolf said with an "are you nuts tone" of voice.

"Not friends, just allies."

"That's okay, I guess," Nightwolf said," as long as he quits using my neck for a sheath to hold his goddamn axes."

"As long as you pull your giant sword out of my throat first."

"With your powers combined, you two could rule the world. With Nightwolf ruling in Kerrone and you ruling here, dark one, there could be an empire stretching across all five continents, a dark world too be all ours," Angelwolf cried with a happy, but somewhat scary glint in her eyes.

"You know, you have a point there my love," Nightwolf said, and then turned to Raven, "and what say you knight".

"My name is Raven, and I'm no knight. I happen to be the king's bastard that's outcast from a lord's castle for a rape I didn't commit. If you're okay with that, then I'm in."

"Then let it be known to all gods and all spirits that this pact binds these two souls till either death takes them or the rapturing of souls occurs." Angelwolf called with a cry for the ages, uniting the men's destinies till the doomsday.

Serwin stopped and looked around in the black of night. They were two hours out from the lord's castle and had come upon a camp. They observed three sleeping forms spread around the blaze, and moved into position for the kill. As they approached the two biggest people they reached down and drew their curved daggers, a twisted smile spreading over both of their faces. They drove their daggers into the sleeping forms, expecting the screams and blood of death, but were shocked when a milky black substance leaked out of the gash and started to move up their arms. They tried to pull back but the substance held them there. Once it reached their shoulders, it solidified to a substance similar to black diamonds. The assassins tried to break free but neither was able to make any progress.

"So how do like my nerodiamante. It really seems to like you. Then again I did tell it to bind you so we could find out whether or not we should kill you or not."

"You must be Raven" Serwin said.

“The one in the same", he replied.

"The girl was right, there is one better than us, and it is you", Iroth said in amazement.

"I'm one with Death, where you only serve it."

"Then we shall serve you" Iroth resolved.

"But how can you be trusted, your already got a contract on my head. Assassins don't readily give up contracts as well paying as the one on m y head is." Raven said calmly.

"Give us a chance to prove our loyalty, milord." Serwin pleaded

"What say you Nightwolf, do we let them live" Raven asked

"The girl yes, the guy, kill him" Nightwolf responded gruffly.

"That's not how it works, I suppose we let them live.” Raven decided, but his eyes went ice cold when he looked back at the assassin,” Hear this elf, if you so much as look at me in a manner of betrayal, I will send your soul to the deepest pits of the underworld."

Raven released the two assassins from the spell, who both stood. The group moved away from the castle, out into the woods. Just then it started to storm. Raven heard the lady of death's voice in his ear as they moved.

"My son, the time has come for the prophecy to take effect, but you need the girl. You will know when to get her. I called back the spirit guard you put on her. It is not needed, for they will not go near her till the wedding day, which by that night you will have her in your arms again."
