Silent Dunes At Dawn

Scarab burning lucid

In your dream it flutters

In diving toward tomorrow's deep ocean sun

Ripples the crowning nova mind

And drifts into your deeper eternity

Watches with silent innocence

As cyclones rip the dust

From aged shelves shining

Flings books

The beetle scours your typographies

For a glimpse with your eyes

Sunset warm

Making the dark sand

Glisten with wild abandon

These leaves of daytime

Dune's frolicking dreamtime

Fall from the only tree

Sturdy enough for time's burden

Fall to the dust through the carapace

Of the hard shelled world

Word their way to Cairo

Sweetly humming through autumn

A golden melody to trample

The dry crips plains

To fill the oasis

Ripen the sky with sleepy tears

And cascade the dawn's smile

Scarab burns lucid

And ignites the slumber'd sun

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is one in a continuing series of desert poems.  Um, maybe I should do a volume of desert poems.  Anyone?
