NAATH*

Saba*, if you happen to pass by Madinah,
Convey my Salaam to Prophet Muhammad,
Do not forget me as you reach there,
Convey my Salaam to Prophet Muhammad.

The sky is hostile, Earth shows its fangs,
Even the homely walls don't understand,
Great is my pining and greater the longing,
To Allah's Messenger, convey my greeting...
Saba, if you happen to pass by Madinah,
Convey my Salaam to Prophet Muhammad...

People fast here but hearts have hardened,
No one bothers to strive for the Garden*,
Hatred and envy, malice and fancy,
Have taken hold of most of humanity,
Gone is the cup of pardon and mercy,
Pass on these feelings that still upset me...

Saba, if you happen to pass by Madinah,
Convey my Salaam to the King of Madinah.
Forget me not and blot not my feelings,
And my adoration, for the Fountain of Mercy.

Saba, remember, all that I tell thee,
To the King of Madinah, do tell my story,
With sincere tears my eyes do wish thee,
A very happy and peaceful journey,
And in return, please, pass on my plea,
To the Messenger of God Almighty.

Author's Notes/Comments:

*SABA: Originally a term used to describe the breeze of spring. Here it is meant as the breeze going westwards, to Madinah, in Saudi Arabia.
This is a NAATH, meaning a poem written for Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him), who is adored, respected and revered by all believers, especially Muslims. He is buried at the Mosque known as Masjid-e-Nabvi (Mosque of the Prophet) in Madinah. The terms "King of Madinah" and "Fountain of Mercy" are used for the Prophet (PBUH),
*GARDEN: Eden/Paradise.
