ISN'T IT TIME?

"The gore of hunger is worse
Than the gore of a wild bull":
So said a friend of mine,
Long ago, swinging his empty purse.
So many are craving a morsel,
In this "advanced" world of today,
Atlantis has returned from space,
Yet poverty is silenced its say.
It is not just the Third World states,
Where hunger and disease cause misery,
Even in the super United States,
I have seen beggars seeking a penny.
Where have the teachings of prophets vanished,
Where has the innate feeling of piety gone,
Why are so many deprived and famished,
Why are the rich folks greedy to be lavished,
To be lavished with more and more of luxury,
To make merry and gamble and spend nights,
At night clubs and then with a slut from nowhere,
Why are these well-to-do lost in nude sights?
The hour of doom and upheaval, destruction,
Is very close, now even the scientists assert,
Isn't it the time to awake and save ourselves,
And those who are victims of perpetual agony?

My exact sentiments

Hi! I am with you. My country is a third word, choked by poverty, and diseases that could have benifitted from drugs. Sad to say, this is the real world. Even Christ said, " the poor you will always have with you" which does not make sense but if you look at it closely, this was an opportunity for our compassionate side to show mercy, consideration, compassion accompanied by actions either in giving, sharing, serving ( example: medical missions ), and offering self ( just being there to listen and to talk to ). My point is, if only everyone capable of doing something for each one and  would make an act of selfless compassion, this would have been a better world.
The humble beginnings of America rose dramatically to being a super power. Scholars from Europe studied the american constitution because they were in awe how they became so rich and powerful. They found out then that the American constitution was very much influenced by the ---- -----,  a book which earned a lot of mockery now as just being a book. Decadence starting from the 1950s and terribly acknowledged as a fad now,  from my own point of view,  is the primary reason why even the USA is suffering, although compared to the rest of the world, they are far richer than most countries. If USA is suffering, think how it is with the rest of the world.
I agree it is time to mend ourselves, our ways, and maybe, our attitude towards the moving power of the universe that  some tend to mock or don't believe in. Of course each one is entitled to his belief such as my personal belief and what this poem was implying. Isn't it time? Indeed...

A well written poetry.

THANKS

Hi. Thanks for the critique. I am glad that you agree. Well, we are hastening our doom, and once the sins -- which in the original Hebrew/Arabic come from a word which means error/wrong -- surround us then there will be no escape. History is replete with examples where wrongdoing and wrongdoers have perished almost within seconds. I do not want to go into detail here but I am sure you too would be aware of the cataclysms and destruction that were just because of sin and sinners. The destruction of Greece, Rome, Japan, Taxila and the Mayan civilisations are just a few cases highlighting the historical annihilation mankind brought onto itself. The Bible and the Qura'an are full of other examples...for instance the events that happened with the folk of Prophets Noah, Abraham, Lot, and Moses (Peace be upon all of them).

Welcome and thank you too for

Welcome and thank you too for bothering with the details. Yes, the fallen empires are in fact good examples which escaped me although it was in my mind. Im not happy thinking of the repercussions. Human as we are, we could just do so much.

I thank you for caring
