THE ENDING

The earth rumbles and spews out lava,

Young people are committing suicide,

Volcanoes threaten the lands of Java,

Tempests loom at the seaside.

The meteor showers are a warning,

That the hour of doom is nearby, drawing,

Closer and closer, but are we heeding,

The terrified sounds of heartbeats -- missing?

The sleepers of Ephesus slept for ages,

Their goodness saved them from all wrath,

But we are heedless to all the voices,

And suddenly we will be, one day, caught.

The cycle of evolution does not want us,

We have lost our worth; are needed no more,

Like nitrogenous waste, like mass surplus,

Our souls have rotted to the core.

Fossilized but in fleshy form,

Devoid of all conscious reform,

The trumpet is on the angel's lips,

One blast and we 'll all be gone...

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem is an inner reflection of how I feel about the present day world.
