I Could....(And Still)

Folder:
Poetry

I could capture my tears in a glass bottle,

Hold it, as fragile as can be,

And release it quickly into the ocean,

For all the world to see....

But still you would not be mine.

I could grant freedom to all those bound,

By chains that cannot be broken,

And throw those chains into the deep,

With all these words I've spoken....

But still you would not care.

I could fold the quilts of comfort so gently,

Over those, who alone, feel only cold,

And read to them beside their beds,

Every story that has ever been told....

But still you would not hear me.

I could hope that beyond the dark clouds,

A rainbow lays quietly in wait,

And push open the rusted doors,

Break the locks on forbidden gates.....

But still you would not see me.

I could make the sky erupt in a sea of color,

Command the raindrops to dance about on your skin,

I could reach to embrace your very soul,

And give to you your every whim....

But still you would not love me.
