White Hot

Wrote it on the pavement
Burned so hot you couldn’t believe
Struck a match in the dark
Seared something straight into me

Like blisters and summer time
Wrapped into cellophane
Plastered on my heart
Please take this away

If there were a few breadcrumbs
I wouldn’t be stumbling now
So incoherent, my voice is stifled
If there’s a way, please show me how

My fingers trace the lines
Back to a time where fear was fine
And love was fickle, but kind
Though frail, we weren’t completely blind

Now, there’s a stranger in my bed
Incinerate the sheets, rip the seams
Tearing curtains from the window
I fell into myself, cradling my knees

Slipped like silk to the floor
Body crumbling at the door
Eyes wide with truth and release
Staring straight into your disease
