Jack

Folder:
Dark

Between the man and predator
lies only a thin veneer.
Behind the civil exterior
lurks always the monster near.

All it takes is a little tap,
an innocent little twitch
to push the human mind to snap
and flick that fateful switch.

To make the harmless everyman,
the fanciful day-tripper,
shuck the coils of sanity and
turn into Jack the Ripper.

Look inside your own design,
past what you call your soul.
See the seething tortured mind
poised to take control.

Now you know that each man hides
behind his gracious smile
an ugly self whose time it bides
to wreak its evil vile.
