Gun Violence

Sometimes I feel I'm a captive in my head seeking to be freed

But a bullet to my head seems to be the only remedy

And God knows I'd trade my life for any of the lives lost at Uvalde

Where some psychopathic teenager decided to go on a killing spree

I find it funny that the Uvalde police were too scared to confront a teenager with a gun

Would there have been the same level of apprehension if facing someones unarmed Black son

And what about protecting shoppers in a suburban grocery store, why don't you pay attention

Or is protecting children and other races something that is beyond your comprehension

How many children calling 9-1-1 from their classroom did you need to call

I thought everything was bigger in Texas, but apparently not the size of your balls

But now it's time that the "moral majority" confronts the cold hard truth

You will do more to protect a fetus in the womb than to protect the youth

The politicians will take the time to film a commercial for TV

"I'm running for political office, please elect (or re-elect) me"

But if you want my vote... please tell me your ideas for reform

What do you plan to do to protect the lives of children who are ALREADY born

And before I get a bunch of messages, all filled with propogandistic hate

Don't believe the lies they tell you ... we don't want to take everyones guns away

Though in my opinion I don't think a teenager should be able to buy a rifle at such a young age

They can't buy beer or a handgun, but can buy an AR-15 to some kids lives away

I don't have all the answers ... and I don't pretend that I do

But security isn't the only answer when nineteen officers couldn't figure out what to do

And it's time for America and all the citizens to stand up as we face the truth

That our elected politicians words are empty when it comes to protecting the youth

I am sure you can tell by my words ... I am highly pessimistic

I think so many of us have come to the conclusion: "they don't give a shit"

Because sad stories like this happen way too often and aren't a new ordeal

Let's just hope that someday we elect politicians who care about how we feel

And maybe they will put an end to all of this craziness, put an end to this madness

Maybe they will implement new measures, so no one has to experience this sadness

Maybe one day we can turn on the TV and not see this sad shit

That a parent has lost their child, and have to bury them in a casket

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this shortly after the Uvalde shooting and the grocery store massacre. It was mainly in anger at the people that could have helped in Uvalde, but were too scared to help the children. I also express anger at politicians for playing political games rather than trying to find a solution.

Feeling your rage,

Feeling your rage, frustration and dismay over the surreal, demented state of things. Some call this ranting; I call it giving a voice to those who have been silenced.

Kudos for speaking out!
