At Nightfall
For the first time in human history
(since Adam and Eve sinned), the dark night drawn
across the sky above that garden tomb
was not (as old thought held) the harbinger
of evil, dread, disastrous choice, sure doom,
and (worse than all of them combinted) damnation.
But night has been changed---a great mystery---
proclaiming, in advance, delivery
in final form: the Gospel of Salvation.
To this end, Christ has died. Now, to assure
our faith---that through His Grace we have election
to real life and external exultation---
our Lord will soon reveal His Resurrection,
when His bright, morning Star precedes the dawn.
