(10) 9/6/82 I am Myself

I am myself

No matter what anyone may tell me

And I've heard it said, "You're not yourself today"

or "That's not like you at all"

But, it is me and me is all I can be

I am myself

Even in those times I've tried to be someone else

I find I can only be myself

At times I think I don't like this fact

I am learning now that Myself is the best person for me to be

I am myself

I can appreciate this fact

All I do is part of me, the goodness and the bad

There are things I find need changing

But I learn I'm only bettering me when I do

I am myself

It is time to feel proud this is so

I like myself

And it has felt good to hear that others like me too

But the nicest thing I ever heard was,

"Thank you for being you."

Author's Notes/Comments:

I saw the accumulating poems and wrote them into a hardbound blank book.  "This book needs a title," I told myself.  I called it first, THINGS THAT MATTER.  Then I thought better of it.  I called it, I AM MYSELF.  What's a book called I AM MYSELF without a poem in it with the same name? I thought.  So, I sat down and wrote one.
