No Pain, No Gain?

Well, if that were true,

I'd sure have amassed

my fortune by now.

I'd be a millionaire,

instead of this pitiful

beggar of heads-up pennies.

Always searching

for my pot of gold

amidst rusted kettles of gruel.

And yet, still, I starve

for simple things-

like life, liberty, and the pursuit of my happiness.

I starve for a 'normal' life,

the liberation of my afflicted chains

and the physical ability to pursue happiness.

'No pain, no gain'.

What a mockery,

what a falsification of truth.

Be it were true,

I'd long now have met

with my 'gains'.
