The Children's Grief

Folder:
Grief & Grieving

My youngest child asked me a question,

just the other day.

"Mommy, why does she have to die?"

and I didn't know what to say.

I fell to my knees and held her,

in a warm embrace.

I took her cheeks in my hands,

wiped the teardrops from her face.

I prayed for the strength I'm going to need,

when Grandma, she does go.

To help my children through this,

for I know they love her so.

I want to take their pain,

hold on to their grief.

They need to know Great-Grandma,

will finally have relief.

How will their hearts feel,

when its time to say "Goodbye."

I want to shelter and protect them,

but I know they need to cry.

So I shall just be there,

my arms will be opened wide.

I'll take what they can't handle,

and keep it all inside.

And we will handle it together,

the children, Daddy and me.

We will all get through this,

as a family.........
