My Country Sky

Today you did ask me ever so plesently
“why do you love the country?”
i think calmly, to myself silently
this is how I get by

I work through this question
And see my way of life
How do I even begin to mention?
Yes, my life is full of strife

I get by on thundering across the plains
The hoof prints that do paint this land
Yes these animals have made a stain
Which proves my life to be as translucent as sand

Everyday I see the eagle true to be
It flies across the sacred sky
And soars across the hallow open land
And never seems to say good bye
No my life is not always full of strife

The buffalo de miender along
Their bulky weight so strong
Their presence so full, aplomb
How is this life I choose so wrong?

Every day I do wake
To the sight of the lake
The steam it does blow
And everyday it does show

When I wake I do see
Maginificance within every tree
And every autumn the sea
Of leaves left behind by their decree

My small country home is perfect
Its small homliness it agrees
With my sense of peace within me
However I do agree my life it does agree

Every morning the moutains whisper
“good morning” to me
and as the seasons turn the mornings crisper
and i decide no shopping sprees for me

these days get shorter
with no quarter
and leave me pleading
with no chance of leaving

still you ask so pleasantly
“why do you love the country sky?”
I think with contentment
This is how I get by

Would I change a single thing
no. where would I go?
What would I bring
If there were no snow?

What would I do in a city?
Those places so packed full
The place would cause me to pity.
A place so full with bull

The cars would whiz by
Leaving me to want outside
These cars are a black eye
Compared to my open sky

My sky so full with stars
Full with an automatic appreciation
“look” I exclaim “its mars”
this I wouldn’t do with out my fixation

this is the place where the antelope roam
and the deer are able to play
where the clouds say “shalom”
and my mountains say “ok”

where my nights are filled with hope
that one day you will understand
why with this place I eloped
for this place is unplanned

so to this day when you ask
why do you love the country so?
I will always replay “this is my sky”
This is where my love does grow

I feel like I can relate to

I feel like I can relate to this. I'm from Ny and recently (2yrs) moved to Ky on my own.

People ask me why,

Yet it's so clear to me

This country sky  looks so fine

bordered with stars in each tree

As the horses gallop away

each night I know I pray

for my Kentucky home to let love grow

a country sky is for me.
