Your Cross

From all eternity, in wisdom He,

Did choose the fitting cross for you to bear,

The weight and size that fitted you and me,

And measured length and width with boundless care.

To be on stiff, refractory shoulders laid,

But He, with the all-seeing loving eyes,

Assessed each ounce and milligram of weight,

And measured with both hands your crosses’ size.

And checked once more the length and breadth of it,

And then anointed it with spice and nard,

He saw that it was good, and that it fit,

And kissed it so it would not feel too hard.

He looked upon your courage then to see

If you had fortitude and strength enough

To bear this gift of His benignity,

His precious gift imbued with boundless love.,

A fitting tribute to the Master, who promises us that He will not allow to be placed upon our shoulders a load heavier than we can carry. That in itself, is a beautiful message to all of us, but your tribute goes farther, by portraying the weight of our burdens as a cross, custom designed by God for each of us individually. You enhance the message of God’s love by making it a personal bond between Him and each of His children. The idea gives us all a truer picture of His endless love, and the limitless gifts He bestows on each of us. Thank you Elizabeth for reminding us in such a way that is so appealing, and satisfying to our hearts.
