I felt a Chill

One sultry night she lectured on TV

She was, she said, from the Moral Majority;

Well-versed in Scriptures, cognizant of archives,

Well-read on presidential deeds and lives.

She quoted Prophet Amos, who no doubt

Was not in sync at all with his days’ crowd.

Free-hearted views she chopped to bits and shards

And lax forgiveness was not in her cards.

Her zeal and skill in brilliant rhetoric

Would douse the zealous preacher’s candle wick

So well she spoke, - but  lo!- I never heard

About forgiveness, pardon, - not a word!

I - overawed by the oratory

And muscle of the Moral Majority

Kept listening numbly to the speech until

I fetched a wrap-- I felt a sudden chill.

AMEN!! I've felt that same chill and have had to rethink what I had been told, re-read old precepts and epistles. Thank God for HIS mercy. We sure don't get much from anyone else.
Love,
Jessica
