The Light of Happiness

Once upon a time,

happiness evaded your grasp

but now it seems,

you wear it around your neck,

on a chain with no visible clasp.

Your eyes now shine with an inner light,

showing all you meet,

that you have won your fight,

the fight you fought to evade sorrows grasp.

With your smile that shines so bright,

everyone who sees it,

acts as if they are a deer caught in headlights.

You are surrounded by a glow that rivals any angels halo.

Your light is such,

that all who pass you are limned by it's brilliance.

Author's Notes/Comments:

I wrote this poem for a friend of mine.  She was a nurse I met during a long stay at a hospital.  She had great beauty dampened by sorrow and loneliness.  When next I saw here (a couple years later) she was completely different.  She had met someone who loved her, someone who made her happy.
