Few feet away from the box window
Stands an old,knarled bayleaf tree
It grew and grew for years on end
Seeking sunshine---. food from soil
Mighty tall tree -- onlookers gazed
The tree branches sheltered birds
Hundreds of fragrant leaves sprouted
Cast shade of nature in concrete jungle
Some practical men mused"The leaves
are blocking the sun..Needs to be cut.."
Mercilessly many branches were hacked
The tree cried in silence looking up to sky
Two months have passed ... the tree smiles
Orange,silky baby leaves have sprouted
On the hewn branches,,, hope never doubted
