See

Have you seen her at Senhati Bazaar crossing?

A small push-cart made of wooden strips

Four bicycle wheels to make the "thela" roll

Nearing eighty the old lady wearing white sari

Sells "kochu sag,loti,shapla,kanchakala,thor"       (Green long shoot,a root,a shoot with flower,green plantain,banana stem)

This morning at eight I had gone to fetch fags

She has no complaints she is happy on her own

In a soft tone I asked her"Whom do you live with?"

She didn't give a proper reply- maybe didn't want to tell

On the first day of DPooja I gave her undue advice

"Wear something new and go to see Goddesses' face"

Sweetly she replied smiling"Where'll I go! Don't feel like going!"

Maybe she hasn't money to buy new clothes

I asked her once"At this age why in the sun "

She replied"What'll I do don't feel good sitting at home"

The babus ask the prices on their way to bazar & back

Haggle with her for one or two Rupees !!!

She smilingly refuses "Verry sorry ,can't.You have to pay five"

Maybe she doesn't have anyone at home..maybe none care for her

If we don't buy somthing from her won't she feel bad?

Today I thought of giving the old lady a tenner

So much useless money I spend but I was hesitant

Please do come someday to see her.Or are you very busy?

I liked this reading. I was

I liked this reading. I was thinking maybe she just is disgruntled about life in general. Poor lady... feeling life as a burden, no smile to give. I might give her a tenner just to see if she might smile....or ask her one day, "excuse me, but I have been looking for something very special for quite some time now. Everyday I pass by and look for it from all the peddlers, but I haven't yet found the perfect one that quite fits my need." Then she would ask me, "what is it you are looking for?" I would say, "a smile from a nice lady like yourself, Madam, but I am not sure you are the one. But surely if you smiled I will know who this tenner belongs to".

At least then I would know if she could smile. Maybe then everyday I pass she will smile thinking about our interaction of the past. :-)

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."

"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

How nice!  A smile for her I

How nice!  A smile for her I know then = a smile for you. Really nice to exchange a smile with passing strangers. A simple pleasure.
