Stowaway.

The night was dark and it was raining he came across this huge door and walked in, He had no light, no torch and had to feel his way, coming to some metal steps he made his way up and found himself a dry place to sleep. He had been tramping for days and his sleep was such that he did not feel anything of what was going on around him. The loud roar of engines finally awoke him. Whatever he was in or on was moving. He felt the pressure pushing him down to the floor. Better stay where I am, he thought do not want to get into trouble just because I found shelter from the rain.

His stomach told him that he was hungry and thirsty he just had to move from his sleeping place. Walking to the door he felt somehow light as if he had lost all of his body weight. The door was easily opened the shock came as he walked along the metal floor. On coming to what he thought was a window he looked out and was shocked to see that he was way out in space. He had found shelter on board a space ship. Where were the Guards that patrolled the grounds of the spaceport? He came to another door. Opening this door he could not believe his luck it was a Galley or kitchen unit. Food and drink was plentiful. He ate and drank and decided to go back to his sleeping place.

I do not know who was more startled as one of the crew of the space ship was suddenly confronted with this stowaway. How did you get on board? Not giving the stowaway any time he took him by the arm and more or less dragged him to the Pilots cabin. The stowaway had never seen so many coloured lights blinking away. The Pilot looked at the stowaway and asked him if he was hungry or thirsty. On telling the Pilot that he had eaten and drunken in the ships Galley. The Pilot said to the crew member let him have a shower and give him one of our overall sets, those clothes look as if they have not been washed for quite some time.

Later the stowaway came back to the Pilots cabin. The Pilot then told the stowaway that the space ship was on its way to Venus. He had now a story that he could tell to his Grandchildren. There was no way for him the stowaway to leave the space ship and return to Earth. He would be able to make himself useful doing the odd little things that the pilot and the other two crewmembers had up until now done. The stowaway was not unintelligent and soon was able to help with piloting the ship and other jobs mainly he was responsible for the cleanliness of the ship.

Later when the ship’s crew had photographed most of Venus and dozens of reports had been written and broadcast back to Earth. No one mentioned the stowaway the journey back to the Earth was uneventful and as if luck was on his side the stowaway managed to quietly leave the spaceport. The Guards were owing to the rainy weather all under cover and he left the spaceport as he had come. I do not think that he told anyone of his adventure and his trip to Venus. No one would have believed him apart from me your scribbler Bern.
