Abstinence.

My Grandma has a parrot.

A quite exotic thing.

What a voice he has,

he really likes to sing.

Grandma calls him Richard,

he really is so tame.

No one really knows,

why she chose that name.

My Grandpa was a sailor.

He really liked to roam.

The bird was bought abroad,

it was he who brought him home.

But Grandpa disappeared,

who knows where he might be.

Sailing round and round,

upon the seven seas.

So Grandma and the bird.

They lived a life of ease.

Then Richard had a cough,

then he had a sneeze!

Richard could not sing.

He had lost his voice.

A dilemma then for Grandma,

she only had one choice.

She had to care for Richard.

He was her favourite pet.

So she got the phone,

and promptly called the Vet.

The Vet he did arrive.

He looked inside his throat.

"I think he needs a gargle."

A prescription was then wrote.

"I hope he"s better soon,

for since my Husband ran,

Richards proved to me,

i dont need any man."

"I am sorry he is ill,

i know you miss his song,

and i have to ask,

have you had him long?"

"Oh yes." came her reply.

( Her eyes they filled with tears.)

"For i"ve had little Dick,

for nearly twenty years!"

So sweet, I love poems that tell a story as well as have feeling...yours has both.
