A MOTHERS NIGHTMARE

YOU CAME FROM MY BODY ,YOU CAME FROM MY ARMS

YOU DELIGHTED ME GROWING,WITH YOUR WIT AND YOUR CHARMS

YOU SEEMED TO LEAD A NORMAL LIFE, WITH HOPES AND DREAMS YOU SEEMED TO STRIFE

THEN A DIFFERENCE OVER CAME YOU,YOUR NEGATIVE VIEWS

YOUR ABILITY TO SHUN US

YOUR FEELINGS AND BLUES

YOU  TURNED FROM AN HONEST TRUSTWORTHY SON

TO A THIEF AND A LIAR ALL ROLLED INTO ONE

I HOLD MY BREATH I SO WANT YOU BACK

BUT SOMETHING LOVES YOU MORE AND THEY CALL IT CRACK

IT ENVELOPES YOUR BODY

TAKES OVER YOUR MIND

IT MAKES THE ONCE PASSIVE FOLLOW THE LIFE OF CRIME

IT TAKES OVER YOUR SENSES

YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS

AND MAKES US ALL HELPLESS

WILL IT EVER END

WILL I BE THAT MOTHER

WHO BURIES HER SON

WILL THE DEMON IN YOU

BE THE ONE THATS WON

IF THERE BE A GOD

MY LIFE I WOULD TAKE

TO SAVE YOURS FROM HELL

NO CRYING HE MAKES

MY MIND IS SCRAMBLING

FOR WORDS TO ESCAPE ME

TO MAKE YOU REALIZE HOW BROKE MY HEART MAY BE

I CAN'T GET TO YOUR BRAIN

OR MAKE YOU COME BACK

YOUR FAMILY NOW BELONGS

TO A DRUG CALLED CRACK

IF YOU FEEL A SPARK OF WANTING OUT OF YOUR HELL

AND A PART OF YOUR SELF CRIES DEEP FROM THE WELL THE CLIMB WILL BE SLOW, THE LADFER STEEP

THE PAIN IMMENSE,THE DAYS YOU WILL WEEP

BUT AT THE TOP,YOUR MOTHER YOU'LL SEE

AND I WILL HAVE BACK MY SON ,MY WHOLE FAMILY

Author's Notes/Comments:

THIS POEM IS ALMOST 10YRS. OLD NOW ,BUT WHEN EVER I READ IT IT TAKES ME BACK IMMEDIATELY TO A TIME IN MY SONS LIFE WHEN  IT WAS A HELL FOR HIM AND OUR FAMILY. I AM PROUD TO SAY HE IS A 32 YR. OLD MAN NOW WITH CHILDREN AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF HIS OWN. IF 1 MOTHER READS THIS AND FEELS THE DESPERATION I FELT ALL I CAN SAY IS TO BE THERE AND NEVER SHUT THAT DOOR WNTIRELY, THERE IS ALWAYS TOMORROW AND ALWAYS HOPE .AS A MOTHER WE NEVER EVER GIVE UP

Gosh ~ this is such a sad, but beautiful poem, and while reading it I just wished that it would work for you... It did!

This is a very moving poem in that it shows the helplessness of parents when their offspring(s) goes off the rails. I am sure that all parents who read this poem will wish that it never happens to them and children who goes off the rails however minor will also understand the pain and heartache that they cause their parents. I see this as a real life poem.

What a beautiful, beautiful piece of work. You can feel the desperation and angst dripping from your words, marvelous job.

donna, your poem strikes straight to the heart and I know that the secert is between a mothers tears and a woman in love. Days will go by and years will follow, hopefully the tears will be of joy and not sadness. We must deal with the issues of today and deal with patching a hole that is made. Only a love so strong can manage through the tuff times. With you sharing your poetry to others, makes me believe that not only have I walk alone, there are others who have walked that path. If it takes to our last breath we must remain strong for the ones we love. Thanks for being a wonderful mother and a poet who carries a beautiful pen. I will enjoy reading more of your work in the future. love forever catt

Donna, This struck a nerve. It is so terrible a trail to see them about-face from this child we knew. I wish you strength and hope. He is learning something, perhaps how not to give in, what it does. Nothing is lost. Take heart.
