From the moment you were born

you held my soul

Hopes and dreams ran wild and free

for life that we would know

But I was too tense too many times

I really thought I knew

how to make you

and how to be

I rarely had a clue



But you took what good I gave

and with loving grace

you let the wrongs all fade away

You have let me be

the father I have always hoped to be



In our time

I have learned more

from you than anyone

Your life has revealed in me

so many hidden frailties

Now I'm learning to let you go

it's harder than I could have known

My heart will always hold you close

My son I love you so



You're more of man

than I could have made

I'm so proud of you

I see you let God work in you
