The Song Of The Mermaid

I play within your fantasy,

upon the waves of time.

I have been for years within your dreams.

I am a subject of your rymes.



Have you ever heard my song,

as you walked upon the shore?

Am I really just a pictured wish,

or am I something more?



I have sang my songs to you,

but -

no one seems to hear.

For my brothers, of the waves,

I must still shed tears!



The dolphins still fly merrily -

till the are caught within a net.

Their freedom, silenced in your trap.

Have you no regrets?



The giants of the oceans depths?

They too, sing mournful songs -

Guard them in your memories,

for soon they may be gone!



Am I just a legend,

that roams upon the sea?

Or~

Am I the stirring of your heart,

to tell of what may be?



I ask you please to listen.

Listen for my song.

I sing for my broters of the sea,

but I have sang so long!




Author's Notes/Comments: 

The beauty of the ocean depths and a mournful song of the mermaid.  We as humanity need to listen to what she is trying to tell us.  Without conservation, these beautiful creatures may be only pictures for our grandchildren's children to see within pages of a book labeled - extinct!

These are definitely the words of one who shares the desire of the mermaid to preserve the beauty & the life within our oceans.

This is an excellent piece to open the reader's mind to the awareness & the need for conservation.

Again, I really enjoyed this one. I love how you had a mythical creature, the mermaid, tell us the story and warn us that ALL the creatures of the ocean could pass into myth. Great job.
