The Tinman

Well, hello there, Mr. Tinman.

What is that you say?

The heart, that you begged for,

you want to give away?

I have to ask the question, I have to ask you why?

Is that a teardrop on you cheek?

Tell me why you cry.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am so sorry, Mr. Tinman,
It cannot be done.
Once a heart is given,
it cannot be undone.
I understand, Mr. Tinman,
but there is nothing, more, that I can say.
I know, that your heart is broken,
but you can't give it away.
To own a heart means sadness,
but ~~~~~~~~
it also can bring joy!
It does not come with warranties,
your heart is not a toy.
I can only tell you Mr. Tinman,
as the owner, of a heart,
it will sometimes feel, as if it's broken ~
as if it has been torn apart.
But the heart is a wonderous gift!
It can heal itself with love.
You can find yourself ~~~ just whisteling ~
Have you, yet, heard the dove?
No more tears, Mr. Tinman?
Oh, you agree with me?
I am glad that you stopped by today
I forgot to give you its key.
Just remember, Mr. Tinman,
you are the keeper of your heart.
You must mold it very carefully,
to love, as from ~ the start.
Author's Notes/Comments:
The Tinman visits Oz. He now knows, that owning a heart means ~ to teach it.  Teach it to love, to feel ~~ to reach for new beginnings. It has to be taught to remember, that heartbreaks ~
paves the way to new beginnings. If everyone took care to nouish the heart, I feel that the world would be a much happier place to abide.
Take care of your hearts, friends.
My best to all,
Lesa
I am reading a book that references "The Wizard of Oz" so I just had to read this poem. Wonderful work! Yes, a heart can experience hurt but it can also experience one of the greatest emotions- love.
This is a really cool peom! I love how freely it moves and of course it has the coolest story. It's possitive and comforting. Where did the idea/inspiration come from? I haven't read any of your other stuff yet, but I'm about to. My complements to you.
I've been reading some of your poetry and I really enjoyed it, it has a childlike feel to it, the rhyme scheme is simple yet still intricate.
This poem is an excellent example that the great lessons in life can be best taught through words, especially from those who aspire to be great writers or even who wish to share thoughts with those around us.
Ah Lesa this is truly a wonderful piece!!! Yes a heart can be broken, but it can also mend. I hope that you will come and read my poem "The end of a broken heart"... It is in my folder Love and pain, and it is my story. for so many years I traveled this world with a broken heart, a heart so badly broken that it seemed there would be no end to it's agony. But through the grace of god that heart is now mended!!
Peace and love ~~~~ Dougie ~~~
You know my cynical humor, I would tell the Tinman he was better off without his heart. Ah... just pure logic to find the mysteries of the universe. Boring? Perhaps. But it could also be enlightening! ;-P
Lesa, thanks for leading me to this wonderful poem. Not only does this bring back innocent childhood memories, it also brings alive the true pain and suffering of someone with a broken heart. Great job ~!
