Regret

2009

Once I wished I could quit you

Give you up and never look back

Now I wish I could need you

Put this love back on track

And once I thought I could have you

Perfectly for the rest of time

But now I feel I’ve lost you

That holding you was a crime

And always I’ve this notion

That we were meant to be

But now I feel deserted

As though you’ve never loved me

So be careful what you wish for

Because it might just come to pass

Once I wished I could quit you

And I’ve got my wish at last

I love the rhythm in the poem. Keep up the good work.

Your poem is universal in its depth of emmotion.

I liked the meter, could be a song if it had a melody attached...

We all have regret, let us hope they are somewhat balanced with joy.
