Ones Lament

Dark is the room where the victim lies;

cold is his shadow from beyond the obelisk.

Daydreams:

brilliant images fill the mind with a drowsy ecstasy.

A desired self-image, one to wash away the current.

Gold and silver to overcome ashen gray

with their vibrant enlightening colors.

A light in the distance,

perhaps that of a distant shore where Heaven and Hell meet;

it slowly begins to glow brighter and brighter

and she appears.

“Darling, I’ve come to redeem you.”

The voice is foreign, unknown to the young man

yet, it shows no threat;

a soothing coolness overcomes his melting vocals.

“You complete me.”

The words come out slowly,

carefully refined to fit the moment perfectly.

A shimmer in her eyes,

a smile crafts itself upon her beautiful face.

Eyes the color of a frail sapphire and oceanic topaz,

a heavenly mixture of shades,

each as breathtaking as the gems themselves.

His mind flushes and is left blank;

the words fall over one another.

“I… love you.”

It was delivered with speed,

a quickness in his voice he did not expect,

but with it being said, a burden was lifted up.

His heart breathed,

now five times less heavy.

Again, a smile dawned her.

“I know.”

She came forth,

an angel fallen from grace,

to deliver the final mark:

a soft kiss,

passionate and loving,

complete and heart-felt.

He looked into her eyes for a moment,

time slew to a standstill,

and the moment became years upon years.

And as he fell backwards into the darkness of his lonely soul,

he would swear that he saw the gems as she faded out.

Topaz and sapphire.
