Fuzzy Light Balls - 07/16/02

They look my way and what do they see?

A lot of nothing inside of me.

Just on the outside, not a thing more.

Because they didn't see anything there before.

When my friends take a look at me they see

A lot of something inside of me.

All on the inside, sometimes even more.

And what they see was there before.

And then there's the one who looks to see

Too much of everything, when it comes to me.

Inside and outside and so much more,

But what he sees wasn't there before.

When you were young and your heart was true

You wanted everyone to fall in love with you.

All you wanted was to be given a chance

And for someone good-looking to ask you to dance.

When you grew up, with your heart still true

You didn't care who fell in love with you.

If love came to you, it would be given a chance

But it could fall prey to circumstance.

When you finally found the love that was true,

Nothing in the world could take it from you.

After dinner, a movie, and a moonlit dance,

How could you not have taken the chance?

When you look at a child, what might you see?

Unbreakably breakable until they fall on their knee.

Everything in life can be turned into a game,

And getting sick seems to put them to shame.

As the child gets older, how will life be?

Sickness is something they might frequently see.

Allergies and weather are always to blame,

And parents end up making another insurance claim.

As seniority hits, it gets harder to see,

And your children ask, "What are you leaving for me?"

And what do you say? "Nursing home bills, all in your name."

And your children think you think life is a game.

---------------------

Money is something you can't live without

And you know that without any shadow of a doubt.

But you insist on blowing it foolishly,

And end up in debt most frequently.

When you make just enough to eke it out,

You're ecstatic that you don't have to do without.

You know you can't live life lavishly,

Or in the poor house you shall surely be.

When you can buy enough political clout,

You can stand before congress and scream and shout,

"To the little people nothing shall ever be free,

As long as the SEC doesn't come after me!"

---------------------

When you look at war, what do you see?

"Oh, nothing much, it doesn't matter to me."

It doesn't terrify you every day and night?

"What reason do I have to be full of fright?"

When you look at war what do you see?

"A major boost in the economy."

Does our nation profit off of military might?

"It takes money to send our men and women off to fight."

When you look at war, what do you see?

"I am terrified of what the outcome might be."

Do you think of war as being wrong, or being right?

"It is very wrong, but most don't see the light."

Without my glasses, I see fuzzy light balls.

I can't see the full picture of rises and falls.

Everything's blurry as a child's perspective on life

When a silver lining could be the blade of a knife.

I put my glasses on and see everything clearly,

And can even find someone to love me dearly.

I am perfectly content with this life of mine,

Even if my path wasn't exactly a straight line.

Through rose-colored classes, some look at life

And don't even fall when stabbed with a knife.

No matter what happens, everything will be fine

Until I remove these rosy glasses of mine.
