Elemental's Council

.
The meeting place was perfectly obscured. Directions had no true west, no probable east, and South laughed so loud no one could hear above her highly inflected cackling. Cool as coldness, North exhaled and Air stumbled in. First to arrive, she surveyed the layout and found no place to sit, which pleased her mightily. Nothing would be written or recorded, again Air smiled, rubbing a bruised left baby toe. Memory would attend and could be consulted as Time doused Detail.
.
Alliances meant nothing – all bets were declared off as soon as Earth bounded heavily in to defy Air’s gale forces and banked Fire’s highest flames. The music from the wind grew quiet and Air knew Earth meant business the way he cast Admiration and Desire at Water’s shores.
.
Fire and Water arrived simultaneously, alternatingly steaming and burning, scalding, and ashing, the wet one ablush with what Earth provided as a mat to walk upon. Fire fumed. Gifts were not supposed to be a part of the agreement to hold a gather. The show was enjoyed by all. Ice lowered the temperature. Only Fire was uncomfortable with the solution. To sit would have been disadvantageous to Water, Air knew. By Earth’s decree, it was to be a standing affair.
.
Recrimination is for humans, it was decided and Water sent droplets to tease Wind’s army. It rained for a month. Odin’s interest was piqued and he articulated as a frown in a corner, listening intently to the hiss of water vaporizing, rising, falling in storms, raising rivers of delight in defiance of Fire’s fusioned conflagerations. Thor was busy, Lokki was somewhere failing naturally. Earth sighed and volcanoes erupted sending humans scurrying like two legged ants.
.
Sass was allowed in briefly and jokes mellowed the mood. Wind died down and Fire embered, water bubbled, and Earth became techtonically locked. What was needed was nourishment, but hot canapes were ripe with jalopeno, distasteful to Air. Mellon please water, but Fire found offense. Adjudicating, Air got it wrong for Earth, suggesting rock candy, and everyone settled for whatever was in their pockets.
