If it was standing on my front porch
I'd miss it even if it rang the doorbell
insistently - I would not hear.
.
If love is for wanting but not for working
at like completing a painting or a stack
of pancakes, then I would own
quarter portraits on the walls
and trash cans full of uneaten
dough.
.
But if I answer the door and smile
finish the artwork and get fed
my life might, just might end up
gettin' lived.
