Holiday Poems

.

A carcass now, meat covered
breast bone pointing skyward,
legless, wingless
well served.

.

The admiration was unanimous
on your evenly golden cloak
glistening in lamplight,
praise for the oil-less cooker
that worked you up so well.

.

Relatives rebelled. Four turkey
holidays teach nieces to say no,
aunts to shake heads because
they cooked. An extra styrofoam
carry all bulging with meat,
dressing, and greens sliped
unseen into already
overloaded bags and sacks.

.

You must take responsibility
now for alka-seltzer mornings,
slow or no Fridays at work.
The fruit laden salad
is snickering.
