Tightened Belts

.

Charity, begun at home,

is lean at home too. Want

becomes need, need

becomes none.

.

Thou shall nots

will hold us a while

until the baby's cries

drive open the fear

Desperation begins

at home, shelves bare,

no ham and eggs or steak

and bread, no juice, no

milk, no gas.

.

at the bottom of an empty

abandoned car's gas tank.

The mind cintracts on well

wishes while dreams evaporate.

It is raining and neither

windshield wiper works.
