possible meanings that I pause,

locked inside the etymology.

Conversion to first down

usually is conversion from rushing

to kicking instead of the hoped

for three more downs.

Fourth downs

are bad ideas, I suspect.

I keep imagining goose

feathers.

I think I need more

3rd down conversions
